personal challenge

I have decided to go one step further....I am going to see how LONG and how MANY quilts I can go/make using only my stash. Anyone wanting to join me are most welcome, but, as I was thinking about Vickie's challenge on not buying fabric for the month of August...I just naturally took it a step further for myself. I have been doing this for a while anyway-with the exception of impulse buying or for a specific class/project-now I will just be focused on doing this. Good thing I have a bolt of 49er fabric for the must make wallhanging for my brother! That will be the project hardest to not buy for.

I think it would be possible for me to do the same except for that round robin thing. Not many appropriate fabrics in the stash for that thing---ugh.

Good for you Cher!! I think it's a wonderful idea. Like most things, it is the worst the first few months..but the desire for "fabric shopping" seems to go away. Having been doing this since January 1st, I seem reluctant to add another "I don't know what I will use it for, but I love it" fabric to my stash.

Seems like many of us are having the same thoughts lately. I've been thinking about carrying this further than August. Not a total quilting no-buy like I'm doing now, but an only buy if I REALLY need it to go with something I already have and am using right now. Then maybe I'll progress to just buying what I need to make a specific quilt. I have a feeling for me to get from my current out of control spending habits to that will be a long hard road to travel. But I'm going to give it my best shot.

Other than having to buy backings, I could do this for a while. i have several UFOs to finish and several fabrics for projects already picked out. I wish you luck!!

Your idea is good - and I wish you success. As for me...... I've always said I could go for years without buying any more fabric, but part of the fun of quilting for me is the acquiring of new fabric and the fun of shopping in different quilt stores and online.

Completely from stash? I find I still need to buy borders and backgrounds when my beiges get low. Right now my focus is finishing UFO's so buying isn't really an issue for me. I've only started 4 *new* quilts this year and they've all been from stash. Good luck with your personal challenge - I know you can do it!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the welcome.

I am going to try to join you with making quilts or completing UFOs only using my stash. Just thinking about it now i have enough projects to work on for quite awhile. Perhaps the only thing i may need to buy is backing fabric. I will following your progress. Good luck.

I wish I could do that! I don't live with my stash, unfortunately. I think I could probably make 10 batik and black quilts and still have drawers full of batik - just would need more black! But I could then switch to the bolt of off white Baltimore background. And hand-dyed! Same story. Someday, I'll be able to make some gorgeous quilts!

Good luck, Cher. I think it's a great goal to shoot for. I went on a floral fabric spree a few years ago, so now I have to find projects where I can use lots of florals. Got any ideas?

Well, I wasn't to admit it, but I am also going to be doing the same thing. I've been using my stash a lot this year, but also buying a lot to refill the stash loss. So buying is going to stopped for August, and curtailed for the remainder of the year, while I stash bust as much as I possibly can! I'm already getting creative with things from my stash! It's working!

We'll do this -- yes, we will -- and we'll be all the better for it!!
