Friday-almost the weekend

This week has been a blur. I am slowly recovering from this cold/cough bug. I have taken on being the chairperson of our guild raffle ticket sales. I have 7,000 tickets to sell by April 4, 2009. Naturally I am not doing this by myself! We have a large guild and the expectation is everyone will buy 10 tickets and can then sell them or keep them. If everyone actually pays for their 10 tickets, I will still have 2,000 to sell to the public. Of course I do not think every member will actually follow through, and with helpers we are coming up with other ways of selling these tickets. My main task was to sort tickets into bundles of ten and put them with the name of each guild member.
Now that was quite the job that took hours and hours longer than I expected. We have state gambling rules to follow so there is much more detail record keeping to do than simply handing out tickets and taking money. I have to account for every numbered ticket and at the end send in a detailed accounting to the state. I am an accountant for my day job, so doing more spreadsheets was not such a big deal. We had a decent kick off last night, at our guild meeting, but even with two helpers, it got very hectic! I reaped the benefit of having all those bundles in abc order and record sheets at the ready.
My sweetie has also come down with this lovely bug and so it is survival mode at our house. If I can muster the energy I am spending the weekend getting the house back to some state of order and finishing up several piles of things dumped for dealing with "later". I am longing to play with the latest idea I have for some new house blocks-I even have some new fabric for it sitting on the table-under one of those piles! Bring on the weekend!

losing your computer, losing your mind

I know I posted about my computer crashing-so you get my title...and of course there has been other stuff on top of the computer crash to add to the sense of being overwhelmed.

Of the many, many joys of being a mom to full grown adult men is having one of them being a computer guru. He built my new computer! And, he came over and recovered the old data-which means with a few more hours of effort on my part-my photos will once again be available.

He was cheerful and wonderful about doing this for me too, even after putting in an eleven hour work day!

I am checking in to say as I keep loading stuff onto this new computer and tweaking it to get it back in the form I like best-I am hand stitching binding on a large-ish quilt. I spent Sunday pinning a stack of about 4-5 quilts to quilt with my charity group. I learned how to fix my fluorescent light fixture from one of the gals who used to be an electrical engineer too. See? another time sucking task on my to do list. I will state for the record-I enjoy learning a new skill that adds to my sense of being NOT helpless. I will enjoy that feeling of accomplishment, once I find the time during daylight hours to unscrew the rest of that fixture and get to the innards. This is where my other son would come to the rescue. The one that took everything apart as a child. Oh how I miss his help- another cheerful and wonderful son who loves helping his mama.
He is a Texan now and calls me mama-took me a while to adjust to a new name you know.

It's May-two quilting classes coming up. A hand quilting class and a challenging paper piecing class. One is this Saturday (hand quilting ) so that takes up that day. Sunday is Mother's Day...and I will spend some time with close by son.

Once this detour of time has concluded I so look forward to picking up on the summer class project I pulled fabrics for. Plus, there is a new FABS quilt in in June - LJ and I have worked together on a new pattern inspired by the tile flooring at my gym.

Oh the garden...it is calling my name loudly too. The dogwood is a late bloomer and it is nearly ready to burst into full pink glory any day now. I will be getting some plants on Sunday to add more color as well. This is the time of year when I am always in conflict- inside and quilt, outside and garden- I want to do both at the same time!
Well time to load up another program. Nice to have a much faster computer and as I add my favorite stuff I certainly appreciate using them.
thanks for stopping by and being patient about the lack of photos.

back !

we are back from vacation- Vegas was it's usual over the top state....too much noise, too crowded, too...too. However, that is Vegas...and the kids picked it for their wedding location and it was a fast and lovely wedding. The bride and groom were gorgeous and everyone had a grand time.

Life was far too busy for any internet time and so...it's catch up day before work tomorrow. Of course there are all those chores to be dealt with and errands to be run etc. Over the coming week I will do my best to post a few photos and play catch up. Yes, that will include "the" wedding quilt photos- a huge success and a very cherished gift received. whew. So happy to have that done with. I have hopes of finding some stitching time today-I am oh so close to finishing those string blocks and look forward to playing with them on the design wall- it's almost entirely blank at the moment. Needless to say, it's wonderful to be back home.
